UIC-GEO Supports SEIU Workers Considering Going on Strike

GEO reaches agreement securing tuition waivers

After a marathon thirteen hour mediation session with the university's bargaining team yesterday, the GEO bargaining team emerged with an agreement that will protect tuition waivers, increase job security, and made important gains on minimum stipends and the university contribution to health insurance. Read more »

Michael Tanner, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, regarding contract negotiations between the GEO and the UIC administration. Why Are We Considering Striking Over Tuition Waivers and Differentials?

We've been asked a lot why it is so important to secure tuition waivers and put an end to increasing tuition differentials in our contract now. The reason is simple: if we don't secure these things in the contract now, we will not have the ability to protect GEO members from any attempts to cut tuition waivers or increase or implement new tuition differentials in the future. Read more »

WHAT CAN UIC FACULTY DO NOW TO PREVENT A STRIKE?

1. Send an email demanding the Board of Trustees give GradEmployees a fair contract at http://xrl.us/bge5t8

2. Call the Board of Trustees at 217-333-1920 and the Chancellorat 312-413-3350 asking them to give UIC Grad Employees acontract that secures tuition waivers and ends skyrocketingtuition differentials.

Many undergraduate students have come to us asking how they can help avoid a strike now, and how they can help in the event that a strike is necessary. Here are some ideas!
