How Undergraduates Can Help GEO Now

Many undergraduate students have come to us asking how they can help avoid a strike now, and how they can help in the event that a strike is necessary. Here are some ideas!

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP AVOID A STRIKE NOW

1. Send an email demanding the Board of Trustees give graduate employees a fair contract today. Visit http://xrl.us/bge5t8.

2. Ask your parents to help guarantee quality education at UIC by doing the same. Read more »

USG and GSC Pass Resolutions in Support of GEO

Last night, the Undergraduate Student Government at UIC, which represents 16,000 undergraduate students, passed a resolution in support of GEO contract negotiations. On February 23, the Graduate Student Council, which represents graduate students at UIC passed a resolution urging the UIC administration to settle our contract in a timely manner.

UIC GEO and SEUI Local 73 Members Rally for Fair Contracts

On Thursday November 12 at 11:30, more than 75 UIC GEO and SEIU Local 73 members rallied on the Quad to demand that UIC bargain with GEO about economic issues, such as ending all unfair fees and differentials, a fair wage increase for all graduate workers, and improvements to CampusCare. GEO and SEIU members also rallied in support of UIUC GEO's rally in Springfield earlier in the morning, and in solidarity with UIUC GEO's strike vote on November 4-6.

GEO Demands Grads Paid On Time

At 8:00 AM on the morning of September 26, twenty GEO members demanded that UIC Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares cut through the red tape to make sure all graduate employees are paid on time. More than 90 grads contacted GEO Secretary Mandy Faretta about not being paid on time. Here Mandy is holding the grievance, which she later hand-delivered to the Chancellor.

Labor-Management Meeting Action

On Friday, October 23, GEO and SEIU local 73 members picketed outside University Hall during a labor-managment meeting called by UIC. More than 20 GEO members answered the RSVP for the meeting, but just three hours before the meeting, UIC denied us access, citing concerns that the very same workers who the university trusts to teach the bulk of its classes would "act up" during the meeting.
